4l80e, only one case lug broken, any ideas?
Like the title says my 4l80e core I found to have a single broken case lug. This was a GM rebuild from a working truck (just before the accident). I found no chunk of metal, fluid was good and so were clutches. 30k miles on rebuild. I assume the donor truck was running with this case lug missing. Strange. Just to note I'm building this trans to hold a max of about 500ftlbs in a turbo 5.3 inside a 2002 Yukon... just because. Its not my daily driver but will be using it quite a bunch in the future.
- Is the case safe to use?
- Should I use a beefy snap ring like the one found in the transgo kit?
- Would something like a Rossler snap ring stabilizer fit my 4l80e and not interfere with the intermediate band? I know its made for a TH400, but they're closed for the Holidays and can't get a response for a while. Coan and Kilgore have similar products for the TH400 as well.
(for future thread finders, Jake's has a case saver/snap ring support as well)
Thanks in advance!
My Case:
Rossler snap ring stabilizer for TH400:

Kilgore: http://www.kilgoretrans.com/html/new_stuff.html (called and awaiting response)

The snap ring support (we have them) is not going to work with a front band.
We use a HD snap ring at that location. It looks like someone got rough taking the transmission apart. I would use a HD snap ring and go on.

Additionally, would rotating a HD snap ring 180 degrees with the gap in ring burried in the case lugs as opposed to more free floating help strengthen things up in light of the missing lug?
