best Transmissuin for my application?
I have a 66 skylark that's running on a 225 v6 and powerglide. Not sure what the gear currently is, but I'm putting together a parts list. main goals is to try and be budget as much as possible while going for street and and dependability. maybe burnouts here and there in front of chicks. lol.
5.3 motor
holley oil pan (already have)
hedman headers (already have)
aeromotive phantom stealth pump
BP LS harness
upgrade the gear to 3.73 or 4.11
if i have a bit more cash to spare, maybe ls1 intake and get Dirty Dingo Accessory kit
im stuck on the transmission. i dont want to mod the drive shaft and get more mounts. so, what would be my best and cheapest option for the trans? th400? 700r4? i want to keep the drive shaft and just upgrade the gears

Why not a 4L60E?
IMO the 700r4 is the worst choice - it is the same size as a 4L60E, weaker (in stock form) and needs a TV cable which is tricky to hook up to an LS engine.
The TH400 is likely cheap but won't have overdrive for hwy cruising.
Don't rule out a 4L80E; they are also cheap and a junk yard 4L80E should be plenty strong for your application, while a junk yard 4L60E is likely to be worn out.
I think a 4L80E fits into a 60s A-body without much trouble.
