4l80e racing characteristics

I'm sorry no one has commented on your question, but the 4L80E will hold up to anything you can throw at it. For road course racing you would likely want to chose a converter, extra large cooler and perhaps a special tune to reduce heat.
We covered a similar question about 4L60E in this thread:

Aside from the weight difference I believe it would be a better choice than a 4l60.
The 1-2 shift is not nearly as far away on the 4l80 as the 4l60.
4l60e
1: 3.06
2: 1.62
3: 1.00
4: .69
4l80e
1: 2.48
2: 1.48
3: 1.00
4: .75
As you can see, the ratios on the 80 are much closer. First is slightly more steep, but of you're making enough power it shouldn't be a problem.
Second gear is closer to first. Third is closer to second(and still 1-1 before final drive is factored in)
And finally overdrive is less steep for more pull in 4th.
I want a 4l80, but I'll have to swap to a 99+ pcm due to the 98 f body pcm not being able to control it.

Give the guys @ North Texas Converter a call. They have a trick up their sleeve for making an 80e work with the 98 pcm's.
