Default 3600-4k stall on stock 4l60e?

After doing a lot of searching, I'm trying to get some more input on whether to build up my 4l60e before doing a Ss3600 or ss4000 stall. My transmission was recently rebuilt after the previous owner blew it and I believe all new clutches were put in. My original impression was run the trans go shift kit(not 100% sure on which level), b&m 29k gvw cooler, and a deep trans pan and I would be good to run either converter. I plan on getting a gauge to monitor Temps also. Any opinions on this set up or other parts to upgrade to keep the trans more reliable long term? I just have seen a lot of mixed opinions and would like to see what everyone else's experiences are that run similar set ups. I ran the ss4000 in the past but not long after sold it, so never really seen the test of time. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks!

I ran exactly what your original impression did for years and had no problems. I would add a spal fan to the top of the cooler if you can. You should have no problems.

OK good to hear! I will look into a fan for the cooler. I'm sure that helps keep Temps down in stop and go traffic. Did you happen to run the deeper pan? Also what level did you go with on your Trans go kit? Thanks for the reply and peace of mind.

Hd2 is generally the kit everyone goes with. Keep temps in check and roll with it.

Sounds good. I'll give it a shot. Do you ever have trouble keeping your Temps under 180? Whether it's hot lapping the track or city driving? I'm pretty sure you run just the 29gvw cooler from what I've seen in searches right?

I by-passed the radiator and my cooler is mounted on the A/C condenser. She runs 150-160 (and I'm in S. FL). As stated above heat kills, keep her cool.

Thanks guys! Lots of great input and cleared a lot up for me! I'll look for a truck pan and decide on cooler style and mounting locations soon. I appreciate it

Just another thought.. has anyone tried just mounting their cooler on the radiator and installing an slp manual fan switch and using that when the Temps start to get high? Thought that may be easier than wiring a separate fan and wiring?

I have a cooler mounted in front of my radiator with no fan on the cooler, a 5000 rpm stall, -6 feed and return lines, and a deep finned Derale pan, and I have never seen my trans go over 170 degrees. No need for a fan with the proper equipment.

No necessarily true. Move that cooler a few inches from the radiator and watch temps skyrocket. Because of how yours in mounted it utilizes the radiator fan for airflow. The exact same parts setup in a different location would fail miserably without a fan. So yes, a fan absolutely is required.

I mounted mine horizontal at the inlet of the radiator shrouding. It goes through the stock cooler then the small plate style Hayden, then back to the trans. No issues so far. I run a circle d 3c 245mm.

Will a tune with fan set point adjustments and a 160 stat be enough for a radiator mounted cooler or would it be better to play it safe with an slp manual fan switch? Or scratch that idea completely and mount it on the condensor? I'm still not 100% sure how I want to set it up. I'm thinking I will bypass the factory cooler though. Any other input on this?

I run a tube style cooler (nothing fancy) with the factory cooler bypassed and a Darale cooler pan. My temps with a 4500 converter are typically between 160-170*

Some people are saying they are mounting on their AC condenser and others on the radiator. I'm not really sure what the difference would be?

I think from searches and other threads I'll just mount it on the inlet of the radiator and with a 160 Stat and tune for fan set points it should be good. If not I'll go further and put a fan on it. Thanks guys

I have a Yank 3k stall (2.5 str) coupled to 3.73:1 rearend gears.

I have a transgo shift kit (set to hard shift) and a Superior Race grade 2-4 servo.

I also have a 24k BMR trans cooler (mounted dope style) and a 3 1/2 quart deeper pan BMR (not recommended for lower vehicles).

I have had this setup for over 12 years with absolutely no problems.

If I had it to do over I would have gone with a 3600 stall.
