Can 8 speed auto be done on a ls1 f-body

Default Can 8 speed auto be done on a ls1 f-body

Hay guys I was just thinking if a 8 speed automatic can be done in a ls1 camaro would like to know if the one out of a new vette would work

You would be able to do it as long as it physically fits in the tunnel, and as long as you had a way to control it. It might be cheaper and easier to do a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. Good luck with your decision.

corvette trans wouldn't work, its mounted at the rear end.

it can all be made to fit , your better off finding a 8 speed auto that has the trans mounted to the engine . You will probably have to alter the trans tunnel .

I'm going to say no that it cant be done. At least not right now. The 8 speed out of a truck might work but I imagine you would need a custom flywheel and converter to make it jive. Not only that but the 8speed like the 6l80/90 uses a completely different computer system than an fbody so you cant use an ls1 pcm to control it. You would have to have a stand alone controller

Like mentioned here, we could get a truck version to bolt up. Would require a special flexplate. Not sure on tunnel clearance, but it is not much bigger than a 6L80. Problem is going to be control, unless you are a computer guru and just want to figure this out and dump tons of money into this. It is basically a no go.
