Default 4L60e make it stay in first

Is there a way to make the 4L60e out of a 2004 Silverado behind a 5.3l (now in a cj7) to stay in 1st gear? First trip to sand dunes and when running up the hills it wants to shift to 2nd even thought I have it shifted all the way to 1st. I think this is a GM safety feature. I want to run it up to 5,000ish rpm and it stay there. But want it to shift all on its own when put in drive or 3rd but want 1st to stay there. Thanks

Mine doesnt do that, it will hold first till the limiter. It's probably in your tune.

Check you shift linkage to make sure the trans shift rod is completely in the [D1] position.

There's a table in the PCM's transmission calibration for the Manual First 1->2 shift curve, you can edit this to disable this shift.
