No second gear, but has first, third, and forth!
I have a 2006 Escalade with 4L65E that we rebuilt with new parts, beast shell red clutches, etc. Tranny has worked great for about 5 months and all of a sudden it will not shift from first to second. Take off and regardless of hold much or little throttle is applied it does not shift into second but when the rpm's are up around 55-5800 it will drop straight to third then drive fine, forth so on. I have HP Tuners and when it is connected it will show 1st gear and then change to 2nd where it is commanding it but does not rev like a neutral type problem just keep driving in first. My thoughts are either shift solenoid (new when rebuilt) or something along that.

In first gear both solenoids are on. For the 1-2 shift, solenoid “A” is turned off. So I would not think it is a solenoid. Could be too much band apply servo travel caused by a worn band or the travel was not set property on rebuild.

Check the servo end play by holding a ruler near the cover and pressing on the cover with a crowbar. Spec is .075 to .125 (1/16" to 1/8") and around .175 you may start to loose 2nd gear.

Thank you guys for replying, I never even got a notification. I just went out and checked and yes the cover moves roughly a 1/4", hard to measure with floor board about 2" away but clear to see moving more than 1/8". The plan has gone into effect to install the 4L80 I have out of a van I purchased. Gonna run the Circle D High Performance LS 300 stall converter. Trans has been completely disassembled today and everything looked to be in very good shape. The band still have the lettering in them and very minor coloring on the steels. Going to throw in a Monster SS Mega kit as it has all the upgrades, shift reprograming kit, and electronics for a good price and they are local to me so the free crap they give me is worth the 45 min ride to their shop. Thank You again.
