Default 2wd 4L80e to 4wd?

I have a 4l80e from a 2000 GMC 2500 pick up, 5.3 from a 2004 1500 series truck that is rebuilt with head work and a cam. Going into my 99 jeep cherokee.

My question is it worth building this one or just buy one from a member here that's done up nice at a good price that is 2wd then make it 4?

I have read that the 2wd out put shafts have like 6+ inche's of spline on them, to make 4 wheel just swap tail shaft adapter and cut shaft to needed length.

Is that true?

IF the output shaft on the 2wd unit is fully splined, You can cut the shaft to length. I highly recommend using a portable Band Saw to make the cut. Cover the drain back hole before you do any cutting. In fact, Factory 4x4 output shafts are just cut down fully splined 2wd output shafts. Just keep in mind not all 2wd shafts are fully splined!

There is a "Lube Orifice Cup Plug" at the back of the case, Pull that out with a small dent puller, Replace with a 4x4 cup plug (No Hole).

Not a bad idea to tear it down & Inspect the actual condition of the unit, Then you can internally "Double Feed the Direct Clutches".

Ummmmm. Thanks for the info but I don't understand any of it haha. New to GM stuff.

Can I tell if it's full spline by external numbers or anything?

Can you explain a bit more the other stuff you mentioned?
