Got under the car this morning and there isn't any way to access the 2-4 Servo without dropping the trans some. There is about one inch between the Servo Cover and the frame on the C5.

New to forum and wanting info on rebuilding my 4l60e. I have a 99 Silverado with a 5.3/4l60e combo. The truck has about 180 thousand miles on it and the transmission is starting to act up. The trans is every once in a while is shifting real hard like I have a shift kit in it. From what I have read on the net it sounds like the computer is sensing the trans slipping and applying max fluid pressure causing the hard shift. The recommendations I keep seeing is I need to rebuild the trans. Am wondering if the parts upgrade list would be good behind a stock 5.3 or am I wasting money using any or all of the recommended upgrade parts.

If you really want to minimize the upgrades, I would recommend just the following:
1. Full 4L65E rebuild kit with new pistons; this will have the better 7-friction 3/4 clutch. The additional friction/steel is the only difference between a 4L60E and 4L65E rebuilt kit; hence always use the 4L65E kit.
2. New Sun Shell - the updated GM one is fine; the Sonnax Smart Shell a bit better.
3. The Sonnax 4L60E-LB1 boost valve.

All together, those add less than $100 to the price of a stock 4L60E rebuild; I suspect many shops would replace the old-style Sun shell anyway.

You may need a new Reverse drum too.
