Stall was done first, had around 40K when that was done with the B&M super cooler, cam was done around 47K miles. Have all boltons except I'm still running the LS1 intake with stock throttlebody and stock waterpump.

id say lasting 75-80k miles is not bad with those mods. No shift kit?

No shift kit. Just used the car now and lets say it still pulls pretty damn hard under part throttle in just 2nd gear.....

I was thinking the same thing yesterday that the clutches lasted 80k under the mods I have but I think having the heads installed is what really took the clutches out. Oh well makes me really want to see what a built RPM trans will do

Maybe I just have horrible luck.. But out of the 3 4th gens(all auto) I've had I fried a total of 4 transmissions. All had shift kits and tunes with 3000-3600 stalls. Current one I have torn apart ripped the hub out of the input drum. My transmission guy blames my tuner for boosting the line pressure.
Maybe shift kits without fully building is what kills these?

It may be the shift kit and boosting the line psi that could be the problem. For what I understand you aren't supposed to do both, just one or the other.

Can someone else chime in on line pressure/shift kit! I'm gonna do the modded transgo from pba/3600ss soon. My line pressure was boosted up when it was dyno tuned. I'm gonna have to have it retuned after converter.

High line pressure sounds cool because it will make the tires chirp on shifts but its not good for making trans last.
Just because he raised line pressure doesn't mean its bad but its HOW MUCH its raised you need to be aware of. Theres a few people in this trans section that are pretty knowledge maybe they will chime in.
Iv never had a shift kit and my line pressure was raised pretty high on the stock trans not for a long time though.

Yes, it's an established rule that you do the shift kit OR raise line pressure by tuning but not both. Especially since PBA recommends aggressive drilling of separator plate holes, you don't do that and increase line pressure electronically as well.

After installing my PBA Transgo HD-2, I compared and used the highest FACTORY line pressure settings from the 2000 or 2002 operating systems.

Ok thx for info. I'm hoping my tunner knows that? They are a top notch shop so I'd think they would know. I'll make sure I mention that though! Thing is I know they raised line pressure when I had it dyno tunned. I'm gonna have to drive it to the shop(hour away) with pba' skiing kit and the 3600ss for retune. I'm I gonna damage anything driving it there with the transgo kit/ boosted line pressure? Is driving with the stall no retune gonna harm anything? I don't plan on beating on it or anything!

You should be fine, but if I were you I'd bring PBA's instructions with modified separator place sizes on it to give them an idea of the changes you've made. They should put a pressure gauge on it and see what you're really running before deciding to adjust the tune. Or you can just go back to factory LP settings and you know you'll be fine.

I have increased pressure and an HD2 kit. The only issue was originally when my trans was stock it was perfect, when it got built the 1/2 became harsh at slow speeds. I went in and pulled like 20% in the lower region of that upshift pressure to soften it up and it's been good ever since. Ive been owning and racing my car for 8 years with the same aggressive tune and never a trans failure.

I installed a FTI 3800 stall in my rather stock 4l60e(minus hd2 shift kit and cooler) around 13,000 miles. The car now has 18,400 miles and no issues. The last 1400 miles has been with a extra 100hp on tap(H/C/I).

I had a Yank SS3800 and full bolt ons and my trans lasted till 189k. I drove the absolute **** out of it everyday too. It had an oreilly supplied "RV" hayden trans cooler. I daily drove the car and drove it hard. I just changed the transmission fluid often and it was fine. The 3-4 pack eventually failed though.

I drove on drag radials or slicks daily, took it to the track sometimes, treated red lights like pro trees etc. It pulled 1.6x 60 fts and ran 12.30s, it was just a full weight bolt on car with 2 sub woofers in the back.

I used standard castrol atf in it at first and then switched to valvoline max life. The transmission actually made it through two different stalls also, I put a Yank PYE 3400 in it the first time then replaced it with an SS3800.

I drove the car 60 miles a day for work and 300+ miles on weekends going back and forth picking up my son.

Change the fluid every 20-30k and it will last a lot longer.

It's not a Fbody but will give you a idea of strength even though you hear so many say 4L60 is junk.
We have a customer who owns and drives a 06 Hummer 140" stretch limo on 35's. They drive it like a red headed step child and it's got a 120K foot to the floor miles on it. It eats a set of cats every 50K like clockwork.
