Default 4l80e rebuild kit options

Looking to rebuild a stock 2003 4l80e and I have some ebay bucks to spend. So been searching ebay for the best kit. The tranny feels like it's slipping in third, so I assume that's the direct clutches ? It's for a stock truck with a 6.0. Nothing special.

Also, the different stage kits, does that mean anything special ? I noticed one listed as stage 4, and another stage 2.

I have personally used the 3rd rebuild kit (Alto High Energy frictions) several times, With great results. Alto Red Eagle frictions work OK in 4L80E's also, But the cost is not worth it when High Energy frictions generally last longer.

Alto has a bad reputation mostly because the Red Eagles getting used in 4L60E/700R4 3-4 clutch, They should discontinue the Red Eagle 3-4 power pack altogether....Not likely to happen though.

I wouldn't worry much about Friction material...Other than High Energy frictions are recommended to be used in the Intermediate & Direct clutch packs. I think the "Brand" of the friction material is a overblown topic, I have used Raybestos, Borg Warner, & Alto for years with no issues if the CORRECT material is used for the application.

Worry more about Hydraulic integrity....
Internally dual feed the Direct clutches. If you need instructions, let me know.
Actuator Feed Limit valve bore wear is pretty common on 4L80E's. This fixes the issue http://www.transgo.com/products.php?...dcountview=Yes unfortunately it fixes 6 Valve bodies & I don't know of any other way to buy it...
