4l60e vs 700r4 Swap question??
I'm getting ready to swap a 5.3l in my 1964 Chevy C10 the person that's going to Flash my ECM said it's best to stay away from the 700r4 or 200r4 behind any Ls motor controlled by a ECM and go with the 4l60e. The reason is because the 4l60e is a electronic shift that works BEST with the ecm. Is this true???
Is there anyway I could go with the 700r4 and not have any ecm issues??
I don't want to lose my cable speedometer original to the truck and not have to pay for another trans since I already have a 700r4 or $$$ electric sencer speedo
Thanks

Sure you can use a 700R4; the PCM just needs to be re-programmed for a M6 so that it doesn't throw A4 errors. While it won't bolt up directly, you only need a crank spacer and some small flexplate mods to bolt up. However, connecting the TV cable can be tricky depending upon the intake manifold.
Also, an old, high mileage 700R4 will probably get shredded by the LS1 unless you first rebuild it.
However, I would still recommend a 4L60E. There are ways to connect a cable speedometer to it. For example, there is a special tailhousing available; it is expensive at about $595.
