What trans to get....1000whp LSX build
hey guys whats up? I built a new setup over the winter time. I was making around 500whp on nitrous on the LS1 with my built 4l60E and pro torque converter. my new setup will make a minimum of high 6xx or 7xx. The car would be mostly street but defineltly strip too. I live 5 minutes from the local drag strip! I really don't cruise much past 65mph. And i am its 70 at most for a split second or two...Only other option is full throttle.
So my question is what rear gear would you guys recommend and what transmission? I would prefer manual valve body...setup is 408 iron. s484 and E85.
Seems like a TH400 with a 3.25 rear gear would be nice with a brake...but just looking for other opinions. I have never really had a fast auto car so I'm not sure how crusing is or what its like.
Any input would be great.
It'll see some street racing as well ( i know) only in mexico.

It depends on what exactly you are looking to do with the car. A 4L80E will hold the power no problem, but it will cost you more than a TH400. The TH400 and 4L80E will take about the same power to turn, but the 4L80E is heavier. I have seen a Quadlock converter WOT lockup 1700RWHP in a full weight Prostreet Chevelle, and turbos love to be lock up. So the 4L80E will give the benefit of lock up without the price tag of a lock up TH400. There are quite a few 4L80E brakes on the market that will give a TH400 a run for its money.

Ls6427,
I have use one in the past on a car that the owner wanted to do 1/2 mile plus WOT runs. 90% of people don't benefit from a gear vendors unit simply because they don't need to race in overdrive. For example a car with a 4L80E 3.55 gears and a 28" tire will be running 160mph at 6800rpm in 3rd locked up. If you are trying to run at a speed that requires the use of OD then the gear vendors is a great unit.
Other complications come with the GV that should he considered as well, in a F-body it requires modification of the floor pan. Added weight and it still doesn't have lockup for more money than a 4l80e. If only someone would release a 4l80e that could be raced in OD.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the fast reply. My car is a 100% street car so I do need OD. Highway driving in 3rd would drive me nuts. I'd rather go 4L80E, I was just wondering about the GV OD unit.
I have pilot training in Dallas soon, I'll hop over to visit your shop.
Thanks.
