Default Converter Flexplate woes

Guys I've hit a snag and I need help. Bolting my LS3 to a Th350. I have the Advanced Adapters dished flex plate and spacer for the snout of the stall. It didn't fit right so we slid the trans back. The stall still has a gap between the mounting ears and flexplate even when it's bottomed out into the crank adapter. It seems like when it's bottomed out in trans and then slide towards the motor it only moves a VERY small amount not enough to be the expected 3/16. The gap between the converter and plate is 3/16. In theory I should need the spacer, but should I try to remove it and see how it fits without?
Not sure the best way to approach figuring this out. Also it's a summit racing stall and the pilot of it is flat/machined if that helps any.

You have to press the Spacer into the Crankshaft 'til it bottoms.

The spacer is bottomed out on the crank, I verified that before ever dropping the motor in. I'm suspecting that maybe it's the pilot on the cheap converter that may not be correct.
