Default Convertor choice for H/C and 150 Shot.

I'm gonna spray my car this year. I still want to run good on motor and rock on 150-200 shot. Details on setup below.

Stock LS6 shortblock
TEA 5.3 liter stage two heads.
FMS F13 cam 230/232 113 lobe sep.
Speed inc race prep 4l60e
Ford nine inch with 3.90 gears
28/1050/15 ET drags
Currently have PT4400

the unfortunate part about nitrous is the car will never be able to run to its full potential on motor because the converter has to be kept tight enough to handle the spray. with a 4400 in there, the car will ROCK on motor but the spray would likely blow right through the converter and run u out of gear....to spray 200, you're probably going to need a multi-disc power-adder specific converter. the problem with these is that, while they are durable enough to handle spray, they are relatively tight and not meant to be run on motor. my friend has a yank nitrous converter that stalls at 3800 on spray and only 2600 on motor.

one option you have could be to spray a little less (100-125) and go with a vig 3200. i've heard a lot of guys are spraying on this converter and my car is capable of LOW 1.6 60 foots on drag radials with bolt-ons and no nitrous so you will have the motor performance you want and a little room left for a little of the giggle gas.

this is probably what i'd do if i were in your place...good luck!

it's possible but as stated usually it doesnt work both ways. You will have to decide what you would rather have. I'm thinking converter and your tune. But I would contact Mike at Yank about redoing your current converter and let him know the details of your setup and your plans. He just did a 4000 or 4400 setup for a friend of mine that is looking for the same results.

Good Luck!

I was think of restalling my convertor to a TP4000 or going with the SS4000. I will probalby will spray mostly 100-150 most of the time.

The converter is not the only issue when going with N20. You also have to consider the tune. My car is set up to run nitrous and it 's quick on the bottle but it's a dog on motor. Unless you have LS1Edit and set up a program for motor and 1 for nitrous you won't get the best of both worlds.

I had a VIG3200 at first but I always thought it was too tight, now I am running a Yank PYE3600 and it seems to be a perfect setup for both spray and N/A

just noticed you live in Streamwood, I live just off the corner of Schaumburg and Irving . . . if you want to get a feel for a 3600 stall I wouldn't have a problem letting you take my TA for spin before you make your decision.

I haven't updated my info. I actually live in south Elgin. My brother is Larry at Speed Inc. I have access to their Dyno and one of the best tuners around(Jim Moran) That's not a problem. I used to have a Vig 3600 in my car.

I talked with PI for some length about this...I have a 382 stroker, X1 cam, stg 2 ls1 heads (all done by MTI), 3.23 gears, built A4, and had a Vig 2800....I wanted about a 4,000 stall, but with 150-250 shot, it would have been too much. I went witha Multidisc Vigilante 3400. Feels tight on motor, almost too tight, but I am finishing nitrous tonight, so hopefully a 150 shot will loosen it up. I am tuned to shift at 6500 (had a great tune at Livernois Motorsports, Greg Banish) instead of 6700 like before, no real gains in those last 200 rpm's....and have a perfect 12.6 AFR all the way across...

Over the years what i learned on nitrous is you dont want a real lose stall , you want a stall that will beable to use all the nitrous not just slip it away. I wouldnt go no higher than a 3800 on spray , I think the pt4400 is a great converter NA but alittle to much for the spray, with a tighter converter you will see better et on the spray.

The TCT option might be out of the window. Don't know if they will build a convertor for a 4l60e. I'm gonna stay with Yank/Vig or maybe TCI. I had a friend that had a full weight bolt on car with a PYE3600 and it was a pig on motor. It also didn't seem to lauch hard on a 150 TNT wet kit. So what are the Fast nitrous guy using.?? I thought a saw a guy going 10.30 with stock internals on a 200 shot post here before.

Most fast nitrous guys are using anything but a 4L60e. The only 4L60e i have seen that has run in the 10.30's on nitrous was in this months GM high tech performance and all they listed was a vigi 3800 converter, but who knows what kind of motor times the car would run, none listed.

Well if you had a th400 I would say TCI. They told me they could make a 4200 comp that would hold a 150 shot and my new motor setup that make 550hp flywheel.

I have a 100 shot on my car with my pt4200. It works out ok, but I've only been to the track once with it and couldn't hook so I only gained .3 in the 1/4.
