Default Transmission control solenoids

98 Camaro Z28 V8
If "drive and overdrive" are considered 3rd and 4th gear and they neutralize could it be the transmission control solenoid? I have been driving the car in 2nd gear since Aug 2015 with no problems, should I replace both? What else do I need if I do?

Gonna go with the common and say your 3/4 clutches are smoked. Can't say for sure as I've only rebuilt 2 of them. The control solenoids aren't specific to 3 and 4 tho. If 4th is gone I believe so is first.

I didn't understand what "and they neutralize" means and therefore didn't answer.
If it means the trans seems to be in neutral, then 2000formula is probably right as a worn out 3/4 clutch is a common problem reported here, if not the most common problem.
