QUICK!! Tech - Help me pick a converter
So last night on the way home from work my 310,000 original transmission in my 2000 4x4 1500 Silverado called it quits. Park doesn't hold and it makes a buzzy noise in reverse - like something is spinning and touching something else, like a playing card in your bicycle tire. Anyway, unless someone tells me I don't need one, I am going to order a transmission.
What stall should I get? I occasionally do some light towing - popup camper, but also will pull something heavy from time to time. The truck has always had no bottom end grunt, power doesn't come on until about 2,700-2,800 RPM. Should I go with a 2,500 stall? Will that help or hurt me overall? OK to tow with that since it will lock up? Will a 1,600 stall even make a difference in normal driving? Want to pull the trigger ASAP. Thanks!!!

We offer a 278mm converter that would probably be perfect. The slightly smaller than stock core helps it stall in the 26-2800 range for improved performance, but it still maintains really good street manners and a full sized lockup piston for towing. We have guys that tow cars to the track, boats to the lake etc. For the price, they are loaded with features like an anti-balloon plate, rear bearing retainer, oversized bearing, hand TIG welding etc. Happy to help if interested.

Brian, do you think that is still fine with a stock 5.3? It kinda makes sense since the thing is so gutless at low RPM.
What effect do gears and tires have? 35" HEAVY A tires with 4.88s.
EDIT - I called Circle D this afternoon. Brian was great to talk to and very helpful.
After some chat and deliberation I went with their 3,000-3,200 278mm rather than the 2,600 - 2,800 version. A little more aggressive, but I do not want to go through all of the time and expense and feel like I should have gone "bigger" in the end, which is what happened with my gears.
