As a general rule.....4x4 units DO NOT have a reluctor pressed on the Output Carrier, But a few could have been manufactured with a Reluctor, Or it could have had a 2wd output carrier swapped into it in the past.

It is real easy to know for sure, Pull the Output VSS Sensor/Dummy Plug, And look though the hole, Do Not mistake the parking pawl lugs for the reluctor wheel, The rear half of the hole you will see the parking pawl lugs, The Front half will be the VSS Reluctor lugs if present.

Ok so all I need to do is buy a ring for $20-40 and press it onto the output carrier and buy the sensor. Correct?

Ok so this is what I'm working with. Looks like I just add the ring inside the trans and push the pick up into the case then go. Seem right?

Correct, Just the small task of tearing the trans down to install the OSS Reluctor.

Much road salt where you live......

Ya it was a 2dr 2000 GMC 2500 4x4 landscaper work truck with 80k on it. Never plowed with or anything but bed was beat up, back window blown out and flex plate was missing a piece that was rattling around inside the bell housing so they parted it out. Bought the 6.0/wiring harness/4l80e/Tcase for $1,000 then sold the motor/harness for $800 a few weeks later.

Other question is do you think the trans case that came on it would have the reluctor ring and pick up sensor I need?

Quick Reply: reluctor ring added to 4L80E?
