PTC talked me into a 3200 for 00 SS
I was fired up and called PTC to order a 3600-3800 stall for my 00 SS and Tim talked me down to their 10" Street(3000-3200) converter. I mentioned that i.mey end doing a cam but i dont have any specs yet so we didnt know how high to go with the stall. He said if it isn't enough and Im not happy with it they would restall it for free within 30 days. He said that since I've never had a stalled vehicle that I wouldn't be happy with the higher stall on the street. Lane has told me the same thing in a separate conversation and also recommend their 3000-3200.
However, I talked to Dave at Yank and he suggested the SS3600 or possibly the SS4000 if im definitely doing a cam.
My car is not DD and dynotuned at 364/360 with intake and exhaust upgrades.
I believe that PTC is trying to make me a happy customer. They build these things for a living and thay are all racers but how can 95% of the folks on ls1tech be wrong? You guys own, drive and race these cars too.
I'm pretty frustrated the more I thing about it. Maybe the 3200 is a good start and it will help me aquire the taste for the larger stall.

Don't say we didn't warn ya. You will be pulling that tranny out again for a re-stall.
Yank ss3600 would be a good place to start imo.
What are your rear gears?

according to another posters chart the 3k stall feels like aprox 75 more hp , the 3600 feel like 100 more hp because of where the engine is revving. i doubt there is any difference in normal driving between 3k & 3600 stall. cayenne's car drove smoother than mine normal driving. i think because of gears. goodluck!

Since its not a DD the smallest I would go with is a 3600. You can ask anyone on LS1tech they'll tell you the difference between the 3200 and the 3600 is night and day under throttle. Give me a call at the shop we can talk about it further.

That was the purpose of my question. A free re-stall is great but not at the expense of the cost/time of remove/send out/wait/receive/re-install. I can guarantee that after a week of driving with a Yank SS3600(or CircleD equivalent),you'll be thinking/saying 'should have gone 4000'. And then when you get a 'cam','good thing I went at least 3600'.

Not sure why this thread even exists. We should just merge it with the other since they both started and ended the same way.
I'm waiting for Part III tomorrow.

Andre at Edge talked me into a 3200 (and I barely got him that high). It wasnt a bad converter by any means from a performance aspect, and at the time I was daily driving it. I ended up switching to a 4k after a year or so. Now, I have a 3200 in my Yukon and while it performs nice it feels really tame.

Unless a shop is strongly LS oriented they simply do not understand the powertrain dynamics of these cars (tending for the most part to think in SB Chevy terms) and thus their recommendations always are way to the conservative side.
That being said, there was no performance or driveability difference going from my TCI SF3000 to a Yank SS3600. I've loved them both. You may be just fine

I called PTC this morning and cancelled my order. What I went with was a tough decision because I've read so many positive things about Yank and FTI. What won me over was the comments that I have read about the SS3600 describe exactly what I'm looking for in a converter. I placed an order for a SS3600.
