Default RPM drop on WOT

So just did a built 4l80e swap with a 3700 EDGE Pro stall (overkill for my setup) in a 2000 WS6. Just playing with it this weekend noticed an odd issue. So how the tune is set up is that the converter only locks in third. but the real issue is when i launch the car it goes through first fine and then shifts to second and starts crawling in the rpm's for some reason it reaches like 5,000 and drops back down to like 4600-4700 while still WOT and then crawls back up to 5,000. The car is not spinning during this period and this only happens in second gear. Tranny is full of fluid, dont see any other noticeable problems. Just thought it was kinda odd and was wondering if someone could give me some insight. Thanks

Are you sure the converter is not locking in 2nd gear as well as 3rd?? 3-400 RPM seems like it could be lockup.

Is the car still pulling pretty hard after the shift? And does it do the same on the 2-3 shift at WOT? 2-300 drop on the shift is not alot of extension meaning conerter is a little loose for your shift rpm. Get you shift rpm up closer to 6000 and I'm betting it works a lot better for you.

car pulls normal through 1-2 and then it climbs again and hits around 5k and drops to 4600 or 4700 but still feels normal but you can feel slow down through the rpm drops and then hits third and converter locks. but through the whole pull it feels like it pulls the same but you can feel that rpm drop.

I think it is actually working the way it should. The rpm is climbing slow after the shift because thats right where the coverter is coupling up. First question is why are you shifting at 5000? If my memory is right I think thats where my truck shifted at stock and car was 55-5700 I believe. I would try bumping shift points to 5700 and see how it reacts before I did anything else. If the shift extension increases ( rpm drop on gear change) your heading in the right direction. If it stays the same then start looking for a problem elsewhere. With a stock motor I made gains with shift points up to 5900 after that no gains were made so left it there. If you have a cam or other mods 6000+ should be the shift points.

my shift point isnt at 5,000 its higher than that, sorry didnt specify that. when it climbs back up it goes past five to about 6K and shifts to third (just fine). i just pointed out those rpms because thats where the drop happens. its is a FBO LS1 car with stall and 80e and about to have a cam and 200 shot after this winter... the stall was made with intentions of nitrous.

Figured the fbody part and mentioned the truck part because of the 4l80, thinking maybe part of the trans tune for the 80 wasnt changed for the car. Not sure how the 80 swap works as far as tuning. And the way I read the origanal post I thought it only dropped 2-300 rpm on the shift. Now relizing it is already in gear climbs then drops the more it sounds like Brian might be right with it locking in second also.

no its already in second gear and climbing and then it hits 5,000 and drops while still FULL throttle that what gets me and this is my first stalled vehicle and i didnt know if it could be the trans or something with the converter. but ill talk to my tuner and see what he says about locking up in second. see if that might help.. but ill tell ya man going to a 80e from a 60e definitely robbed a **** tone of power BTW lol
