Default 4l60e Trans Rebuild

Hi guys, I recently blew out my input shaft drum on my 1998 camaro z28. It broke shifting from 2-3 gear at WOT. It seemed to have shattered the input drum causing little pieces to go everywhere. A local shop diagnosed all this and said it will be $3100 for a rebuild to stock specs with a new stock converter. And $4300 with a little heavier duty pieces and a new looser stall converter. These prices seem way too high to me, but I wanted to get everyone's opinions about it. What do you guys think? Thanks.

4300.00 should buy a pretty stout 4l60e. I can get a stock rebuild around me for under 1k.

That's really high. Taking a few hundred of that $3,100 for installation labor costs, you can just buy a better than stock 4l60e with a great custom torque converter from a sponsor here for that kind of money.

Prices I recall from other threads are $1000-$1200 for a stock rebuild, $600 to remove/install the trans and $250 for a stock converter.
Performance built 4L60E from several vendors start around $1600, performance stall converters at $500 and you can likely find a shop to remove/install the trans for $600.

Was it a local independent shop that quoted such a high price or a chain? Chains have to pay franchise fees, advertising fees and often higher rents; that is why I always recommend a local non-chain shop.

That's insanely high. I'm getting a Finish Line Trans Level 4 for $1900.

There's several reputable sponsors on this site that specialize in 4L60 builds for half the price.
