Default ? On a prndl switch

Hello I'm getting a psi wire harness har1014 and I talked to psi and I asked if the wire harness had the wires for the prndl switch and they said no and I don't need the switch I'm using a 4l65e 04 ish transmission. And it's dbw

Do I need the prndl switch for the transmission to work right?

I have a b&m shifter that has a neutral safety switch on it .

I have a compushift 1 and when you put the trans in gear it tells the controller what gear its in.
I'm assuming your Talking about the black box on the driver side .
You do need it if you want to run the neutral safety and rev lights off of it tho

Yes that is what im talking about
My b&m shifter has the light switch and safety switch.
So I know in turning the motor it has charts for in gear and in park .
So what has every one done on a stand alone harness for the tune if you are not using that switch ? Since it sounds like they delete it for the stand alone

Thank you Kelly

As mentioned, the "black box" only implements the Park/Neutral safety switch and controls the Reverse lights. Nothing else - IT DOES NOT tell the PCM what gear the shifter is in. The 4L60E internally determines if the shifter is in [D1], [D2], [D3] or [OD] and tells the PCM through the trans wiring harness.

BTW - I also have the B&M shifter and no "black box".

So just to hijack, If I am running a GM PCM with a 4L80E and, say a B&M shifter with micro switches for R and Neutral safety, do i "need" the "black box"?

Since the 4L80E also signals the shifter position to the PCM via the internal harness, it also will not need the "black box".
