How long will it last? Rebuilt 4l60e and 500 hp
Well guys, the setup is a boosted 5.3 should be around 500 whp and a standard rebuilt 4l60e with a corvette servo and cooler. Been hearing horror stories about the weak 60e's but don't have the money for a th400 yet, i plan on getting one but was hoping on later vs. Sooner. Oh, the rear gear is currently a 3:23 but will eventually be a 4:11 both on drag radials, street strip car. Personal experience is what i'm really looking for, not guesstimates, thank you.

Take this tip for what it's worth. On 8.8's, I have found, if you use stock Ford gears, just swap them right in. Keep the shims where they are already setup on a stock gear. Nothing to check or change. Make sure you don't overtighten the pinion nut.
You can pull a used set at the yard since your not looking for anything special, but if you buy a set, buy Ford Motorsport gears. I used to setup gears back in the hay day of Mustang Fox bodys. I put in over 100 sets of gears, and Never had a issue on anything newer than 87. For some reason, the 85-86 housings didn't co-operate on this method.
This only works if the gears in there, are still a factory setup gear. If someone has already changed them out, then it's time to get out the tools and check backlash.
