Default 4l60e to a 4l80e swap in a Silverado?

Hey guys. I have a 4l60e in my silverado and I am about to swap out the stock 4.8 and install a 6.0 with about 480 hp. Everyone says the 4l60e will handle that HP all day but my long term goal is to build a 1000 hp or more. Should I make the swap to a 4l80e now? If I did this, do any of you know how hard the swap is? I asume the simple stuff like cross member etc but what about wiring?

This topic has been covered many times on performancetrucks.net. If you do a search there I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

One our tranny builders here has a 04' Silverado with a built 6.0 in it putting around 500HP out at the crank. We have the 4L65E behind it with our of our SRLS-3 converters and its held up quite well. including several lengthy burnouts on 35s!

If you are planning for 1000HP in the future I would ride that 60E as long as you feel comfortable doing so and then swap in the 4L80E

I'm in the same boat right now as well and am honestly torn between doing the conversion. But the reality is your always going to want more and the best overall bet is the 4l80.

The cross member is available from one of the forum members on performacetrucks.net and is about $155.00 shipped without a driveshaft loop. The wiring is a pretty simple pin out or if you don't want to deal with that Speartech makes a plug and play harness for $135.00. Other than that the flexplate is different and depending on other things the driveshaft may need to be changed for length. Than of course you'll need to have the truck tuned.
