Default Trans temp gauge

Just installed trans temp sender and wired it up...I put the bung in the trans port so I understand it's going to be 10-15* higher but I feel like something isn't right..... it's showing 250*

I was told it will be automatically grounded and I don't need to put a ground on the sender. Tried it anyways after this and it goes straight to max temp so I don't think that's the issue lol.

Opinions ???

what gauge brand did you go with? my autometer called for a ground on the probe that goes in the pressure port. ground one wire(think black) and the other goes to the gauge

It's an auto meter gauge. I have a power wire going from the sender to the back of the gauge connection. I tried to ground it after this but the result was an automatic max temp on the gauge. My car is a 98 as well if that makes any difference

Got it. The solder from the ground on the back of the gauge came disconnected. She's ready for a stall. Thanks for the help
