Default T42 / 4L80E limp mode - how to troublshoot?

My swap project has a L92 6.2 mated to a 4L80 both of which are managed by an E38 and T42 transmission controller. I took the car out for the first time and noticed that the transmission starts out in 2nd gear and will not shift as it should. I verified constant and switched 12VDC plus the ground is correct. Anyone have other ideas for troubleshooting this? My tuner knows what he is doing and supposedly flashed the T42 with an express van tune. I made the harness and closely followed the express van schematic. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'm guilty. I'm 1 of the 145 views.
I click on anything with a 4l80e in the title as I just installed one in my Nova.
Be patient. One of the trans pro's will try and help.
Don't forget, they do this for a living and aren't sitting by the computer waiting to answer our questions.
We'are lucky they help.
I can kind of relate when I'm in the big box stores (not by choice) looking to pick something up in a pinch and I see some guy in the electrical isle with the wrong material to do a job.
I see the deer in the head lights look and I ask them what they are "trying" to do
and either tell them the correct way OR to hire a licensed electrical contractor (not necessarily ME) to do it!

I get it....I am working this angle to make sure the tune is correct. Next logical steps for me is to verify continuity between the T42 plug and the 4L80.

ATF isn't conductive, the connection at the solenoids is exposed anyway.
Sorta like the fuel pump running in gasoline in the tank, which is also not conductive.

did he flash first or read the computer first? youre supposed to hook up the tcm with the 80e segment on it already, and then read the file. This will result in a file that has the engine parameters mated to the 80e segment.

Ha, You are a wise man. My tuner told me the exact same thing after discussing the problem. We will see if that works. I gave him a spare T42 just to be sure....

I tells me my base tune is from an Escalade which doesn't make sense to me provided the Escalade had a 6 speed. You would think that starting with an Express Van 6 liter with 4L80E would make more sense.

Thanks for your input

u may have to get a tcm for a 80e. Or try using the PCM of NC 80e relay harness. I used it with the tbss 80e swap without issues running the original 4l70e tune.
