Red face Need Help! Broke A Sensor Off of Tranny!!!

I was changing my positive battery cable so I lowered my starter to get to it. To make a long story short I broke off the sensor that is on the Hexigon lug. THe sensor right below the starter on the transmission. My question is what is this sensor and what does it do? Can I drive without it?? Help!

Talking

er uh, that is the OIL PAN, and you broke off the oil level sensor (probably just broke the connector...it would take a REALLY BIG HAMMER to break the sensor offa the oil pan) if its not leaking thru there, you can drive it...
