Default TH400 guys . . . get a tach/shift light?

Would it be a good idea to get a tach/shift light for my TH400 swap for more consistant runs at the track?

yes it would be with any trans... stock tach is usually reading behind the actual rpm... wether your Th400, 4L60e, or M6

I have a 5" monster tach with an external shift light. I don't watch the tach when I race....just wait for the light to flash. The tach will also help you fine tune for a good street launch, if your trying to not use your transbrake all the time.

You can get an AutoGauge 5" for as little as $125 with a shift light or move all the way up to the C2 (my favorite gauges) or Cobolt Series for $250+. Get a tach with a shift light, you will be happy that you did.

I am not sure I want the monster tach, would just the autometer shift-lite w/ RPM module work? Would it be accurate? I am sure my OEM tach is off anyway by a few hundred RPM?

Just get the shift-light. Nobody has time to look at the tach wind up as they're going down the track, especially once you start going fast.
