Some info I got from Brandon @ SDPC, the flywheel P/N 12551367 needs to be used with Spacer P/N 12563532 and also bolt P/N 12563533. Reason being is P/N 12580709 is an offset flywheel and P/N 12551367 is a Flat Flywheel, thus needing a spacer. I went with the offset flywheel because I thought it would be better/easier being one piece. Though, I was told that there is a chance that the P/N 12551367 would have the right bolt pattern, but no one seemed to know for sure.

More Info:
The P/N 12563136 Flywheel changed to P/N 12580709.

Get rid of the intermediate roller clutch and direct drum, replace it with a 4L80E drum and 34 element sprag. It doesn't take much to break the stock roller.
Use a TransGo 1&2 kit, best automatic/manual shift you can get in a TH400 IMO.

I posted the speedo write-up on ls1tech here: Speedo Write-up
I explained how to make your speedo work without buying anything.

I think this should help with finding all the parts needed for the install http://www.redrider.us/th400_.htm This site has the entire job from start to finish. It seems a bit pricey but im not shure if you need all that they show but like i said i dont know if you do i better save up a little more.

Th400 with 4in tail will bolt right on to the T-56 crossmember. Use some washers or a 1X1 piece of square tube as a shim to raise the tail to the proper level. Use the longer Lockar 36" dipstick. B&M Hammer shifter bolts in and works good in the M6 location.

I was wondering about the reverse manual valve body....... whats the difference in using one of these vs. a forward valve body? I'de LOVE to keep the stock shifter!

Reverse manual shifts 1-2-3. Standard manual shift pattern is what a stock shifter uses where the shifter goes 3-2-1. With the reverse manual it basically makes it so that you move up the gears from reverse. That's pretty much it as far as the difference goes.

the th400 and 350 use the same convertors so the info should be the same .

i'm swapping a carbed ls1 or 6.0 into a mone ls or foxbody, and gonna use the th350. which Gm flywheel requires no spacers and is a direct fit. is the tci flexplate a direct fit? and what are these part numbers.

i believe i have a 98 flywheel cause it has a few sets of bolt holes. Precision made my turbo 400 converter to fit an ls1 which means it has about a 3/8 longer pilot hub than a standard 400 converter. If you look at a t-400 converter from the side, the mounting pads on the converter (where it bolts to the flywheel) are about even with how far the hub sticks out (hub sticks out a teeny bit from the plane across the mounting pads but not much). On a converter made for a ls1, the hub sticks out a good bit further...like 1/2 an inch. it is obvious even by eyesight. THEN you dont need the spacer. If the hub doesnt stick out a good bit past the plane across the mounting pads, you need the spacer. the tci flexplate takes car of the bolt holes being in the right place if you dont have the 98 flexplate...i dunno if its flat or recessed....if it is recessed, it might take care of not needing the spacer as well but I dunno about the tci flexplate.

You need to put it all together and check your own distance.

Mine measured from the end of the tailshaft to the top edge of the pinion was 47 3/8". I used the measuring document on Denny's DS site.

Here's when I posted it:

I also calibrated the speedo to a 2.76 gear coming from a 6spd and its right on the money.

I just finished bolting up my th400. I used the BMR th400 crossmember. TCI flexplate works and comes with pilot spacer i had to put a washer between the converter and flexplate there was a small gap. the 36" lokar dipstick i got from jegs for like $80 worked great and looks great. used 1/4npt-6an fittings on the trans braided line to the cooler. permacool 10x15.5 with fan havent wired fan yet. still waiting on edelbrock torque arm have to order driveshaft and pistol grip quater stick didnt work with the manual console so i have to get megashifter or hammer shifter tommoro. didnt get to wiring speedo yet. Does the th350 inspection cover fit by any chance????

Just an FYI. There is is supposed to be some gap between the TC and flywheel. Hopefully you didn't stuff enough washers in there to fill the whole gap.

Someone clarify this for me. The TCI flexplate part # 399753 will work with a Th350 converter? Do you need the shims and the pilot extension? And do you have to drill out the mounting holes to 7/16?
Thats the right part number and should work fine with a TH350 TC. Don't need the pilot extension and not sure what shims your referring to. The holes in the flexplate are already 1/2" so no need to drill them for a 7/16" bolt.
