Question Delete 3rd Gear Lockup?

Would it harm the tranny to delete 3rd gear lock-up? There are many situations where the it'd be better to cruise around town in 3rd, but lock-up causes the engine to bog at lower rpms. For that reason, I normally drive in OD, because when needed, the tranny will downshift and grab third unlocked. I'd rather save the shifting and drive in 3rd unlocked at times.

with hptuners & edit you can adjust where it goes into od...you could just set everything to some absurd # and it just wouldnt go into lockup...with my 2.73's and big cam i had to move the lockup points up in 3rd and forth a bit to get everything to feel right.

I have the 3rd gear lockup disabled (set MPH to 255) on both my Z and my 'Vette. I like it better that way. It doesn't hurt a thing.

Yeah, I took mine out in 3rd, just set the lock MPH
to 255 (HPTuners). That makes 3rd more "sporty"
at least with my relatively mild TCI SF 3000. Lock
in 4th covers my cruising from 38MPH up.

The TCC doesn't lock in 3rd when you have the gear selector in "3", does it?

I sure don't feel mine locking.

Marc:

Put a 4000 stall in and you'll know when it locks up.

Good. I'm hooking up with a guy and doing some HP tuning tomorrow and we'll just move the lock-up speed to a preposterous number. Didn't want to do it if it would create excess heat in the tranny or other problems.

Ragtop: That's why I went with the baby Yank 2600/2800. I tow a lot, and didn't want the large variance in RPM's.
