Default Fbody pan vs Truck pan

Has anybody swapped out their 4L60E fbody trans pan for a Truck pan? I want to go with an alternative route to the TCI cast pan. How much ground clearance will I loose with the truck pan?

Not very much, it almost comes out level with the K-Member. I have one in my SS and it doesn't scrape anything, nor caused any problems. It is a great alternative ... I will be switching to a B&M cast unit in the future, though.

I am going with the TCI Pan this weekend. The TCI Pan is a lot heavier than the stock.

Having been through (and posted; search A4 section)
stock, TCI cast, TCI chrome and truck pans I can tell
you the truck is about 3/4" shallower than the finned
cast pan, and 3/4" deeper than stock, and is not the
lowest point (protected by the Y-pipe). I used to tag
the finned TCI oil drain plug all the time, no bumps yet
on the truck pan. You will have to grind the prongs
inside the TCI pan if you want to use the truck deep
filter, but the truck pan is (duh!) straight up compatible.
The truck pan seals nice, so did the cast TCI finned pan
but the chrome pan was a weeper.

I like the truck pan, only issue I had was a moron rounded the drain plug so I had to remove the pan, break the inner nut loose, replace plug with a new one and weld the inner nut back in. Didnt have to grind any spots inside the pan and I use a truck filter.

Take a look at the dearle pan. It adds a qt and some cooling capacity via tubes and might be closer in size to the truck pan.

How much did you have to grind? Did you take the prongs all the way down to the pan?

Thanks,
Bill

I've got the truck pan on mine with the truck filter and have had no issues whatsoever.

That post is so old I dont remember creating it. lol..

I never changed pans since i've never had a temp problem. It'll get up to the 180's hot lapping in the heat which is still acceptable.

No, the TCI pan is set up for the short filter and you
just need to take out the height difference between
that and the truck piece. Stack them up next to each
other and see, should be about 3/4" or so off the top
of the prongs. Then you'll be nice and deep in the
juice, but nowhere near the sludge, best of both
worlds. If you've got the ground clearance....
