Default Tranny Problem *Help Please*

On my friends 99Z28 A4 its having problems shifting. It gets up to like 4500-5000rpms and it starts jumping and not wanting to shift. You back off the gas then floor it again and it will shift. This only started after the headers got installed. I told him to check the tranny fluid to see if maybe it was low. When he pulled the dipstick out, tranny fluid came flowing out all over, like alot of pressure was built up.... What would of caused this to happen???? It never had the shifting problem before the headers.

Thanks for the help

Was this on the 2-3 shift? Which ever shift it was he's got massive overheating going on which is caused by clutch or band slippage which is caused by (insert one of a dozen various failures here)

My first question would be to ask if he's reprogrammed the stock shift-points, followed by milage, power modifications, abuse history, etc.

Need more info.

Did he over fill the tranny? Too much fluid will make it not shift right and if left in too long, kiss it good bye. JP

Check the vent tube that goes from the top pass side of the trans down through the area where the torque arm mount goes on the tail of the trans. If he did some work in this area he may have pinched the tube or smashed the elbow where the tube comes out of the trans on the top and the trans is building up preasure on temp increase.
