Default Drove my car out of town this weekend with the TH400. what is everyone talking about?

this last weekend a buddy of mine was having a going away party at his 200 acre ranch. there was going to be BBQ, beer and guns so i had to go. at first i was going to take my truck but the wife needed it and considering she was on the edge of not letting me go i did not argue with her. then i check the weather and there was a small chance of rain so the first thing i did was remove the ET streets and put on the stockers. next i grabbed my AK47 and about 200 rounds of ammo, put them in the trunk and headed out on the freeway. another buddy of mine was following my in his 02 bullet stang. considering the ranch was 1.5 hours away and i could not wait to get there, i speed up to 80mph. which on my car with the TH400 and 3.73 gears was right at 4,000 rpm. now what is everyone scared about not having OD and a locking converter. cars used to run like this in the past all the time. the motor was just purring away and did not even get close to overheating. i also have true duals so the noise was pretty loud but i just tuned up the radio and blasted up the AC. i cant explan how much i loved it, jamming to my favorte songs with the sound of my motor at 4k in the back ground just gave me chills. and the best part was having to past someone on a two way highway when you are already at 4K (very fun ). i think i scared the crap out of this old lady though once i got there my buddy freaked that i brought the SS. after that i drove home the next morring and fell asleep. i havent had this kind of fun since i drove my old 69 3 hours straight in the same conditions a few years back.

How was your oil consumption?

I'd guess your throttle response was awesome, but I'd perfer to be around 2500 rpms at 80 mph.

Good to hear. I am getting my TH400 put in in a week or so and I hope to have similiar results. I am undecided if I should stick with my 410's or go to 373s.

I'm sure we have rules against discussing what you do in the shower. PM him if you feel a need to continue this line of discussion.

Colonel, the gas milage was not as bad as i thought but not real good eather. probably around 18 or so.

Ragtop, i changed my oil before i went and once i got back, it was still all there. so none that i know of. on the street my car usually uses 1 quart in 3 months, which for me is around 3,000 miles.

Next, we all had tons of fun exept for this rabbit. he defenetly was having a very bad day

with an AK? goldamn... poor rabbit... yeah anyway, I figure with a 3.23 and 3200 stall, a 400 wont be too bad for me cruising at 75mph. maybe 3200 rpm?

Only in Texas can you get away with shooting rabbits with an AK47

18 mpg. That's outstanding.

First of all, the party sounds awesome - I'm jealous ... done some of the same up in Northern CA on the Sacramento River, but never AK-47s!

As for your TH400/3.73s, you may groove on 4000 rpms, but I grow really weary of my 69 GTO at 3200-3500 rpms @ 65-70mph. Maybe I'm an old fart, but one of the reasons I bought my LS1 Firebird is 80mph and 2500 rpms.

back in the day, my 69 camaro with the same TH400, 26" ET streets, 4200 stall and 4.10s was right at 4500 at 70. one summer we got a real close hurciane that was suppost to hit. i did not have any cover for it so i got some clothes, picked up my girlfreind and headed out to san antonio. at first i did not want to rap up the motor to high so i justed cruzed at 60 which was around 3500. after the first 10 miles the motor got to 260 degrees but i was not loseing any water so i keeped going. then after another 10 miles it crept up to 280. thats when i slowed down and pulled over to let it cool down a little bit. at this point i did not know what to do exept just start speeding down the highway until it got hot again. so thats exactly what i did. i just speed up to 75 or so, the tach was at 4500 and to my suprise, the motor cooled down to 220 where it stayed the rest of the trip. i learned that i had to keep the motor above the stall speed to keep it cool. as soon as i went under, the stall would cause the motor to overheat since it was in a constant slip. that was intereasting but it worked. and just so yall would know, that trip was right at 6 mpg

anyways that was back in the brass radiator carburator days. now with an LS1, the cooling system is so awsome that i can drive at any speed without any over heating but i decided to drive over the stall anyways to help the tranny a little bit. also gas milage is so much better.

to be honest, i acually missed him with the AK like 5 times. so we just used a 12G. i felt kind of bad because once we cut him up it had worms so we could not eat it. i really wanted to throw him on the pit and BBQ it but it did not happen.
