Default Stall converter install, how much should it cost?

How many hours should it take a professional tranny guy to do my stall converter install? Is there anywhere I can go to get exact directions that I can print out and hand to him?

Keep in mind that he has to install:

ST3500 Stall converter
B&M Tranny cooler
Transgo shiftkit
Temperature Guage

He quoted me 600 dollars (@ 60 per hour). Is this insane? Does anyone know someone that will do it cheaper? I live in central/Northern Virginia.

The price does seem a lil high i believe it should be around $450 with everything you have. Not every trans guy installs trans-gos try to find someone who does.

To install my converter, tras-go shift kit, cooler and all fluids and filter was only $350.
$600 is outrageous in my opinion.

You should be paying 350-450 for everything. Hourly rate should be from 35-50. FIND SOMEWHERE else even if you have to wait longer or drive farther.

Hourly rates will vary depending on your location and economy. Here in Houston, rates range from $50-100 an hour, depending on what location in town and how good the shop is. If it's TOO cheap, make sure you know what you are getting. 10 hours is not out of the realm. It's about 7.5 to straight R&R the typical 4L60e. Sounds like he's not cutting you any breaks but not quite bending you over either. What do other (tranny) shops charge. What kind of warranty does he offer? How long in business? Good reputation? If all these answers are favorable and comparable, I'd say it's realistic. Don't let someone across the country tell you what it should cost. How much you trust this shop and it's work/warranty is the bottom line.
Also keep in mind, he's charging book time (like alldata, etc.) not punching a clock. It has pros and cons.

do the guage and cooler yourself and save yourself some money..they are both easy to do. 600 is insane to pay for that.

$250 (backyard special) - $400 (shop) for everything is reasonable in our area.

Sent you an e-mail with the name of a good local shop.

I was quoted 390.00 to install convertor and trans cooler and shift kit. 600.00 is too much IMO. I am sure there is someone on the site in your area that has had it done for less and could refer you.

Where are you located?
