Default Trans Temp Gauge Install

I'm planning on installing a trans temp gauge pretty soon, and I've seen something in the catalogs that I'm curious about. There's a little gizmo that Auto Meter offers called a "temperature manifold", and I've read that some late models require it to hook up the gauge, I was wondering if I would need that for my 4L60E. Also any info on where to hook up the gauge would be much appreciated.

Use Electric, no need for tube only a single wire to sender , several wires at guage, I for get the brand I used , it is programble to flash at any set temp digital guage and sending unit from summit about less than 1 bill. I mountrd it in the pan but you may mount in the port

Put the sender in the pressure test port. It's on the driver's side of the trans, above the shift linkage. Use red loctite or teflon tape to seal it.

Crimp or solder a ring terminal onto a wire, and attach to the end of the sender. Run wire to appropriate terminal on gauge, and viola. Temp gauge.

This is how I did mine 6 years ago, and it's still going fine.

I have a trans temp gauge, af, and the one that has the digital tach with shift light in it. Got them all for Christmas but havent even taken them out of the box.

I'm sure they all have a wire for lighting. Where does everyone run this to?

I just got my autometer trans temp and was getting ready to hook it up when I found this 6 year old thread..

I know what the sender is, but I can't figure out how it goes into the pressure port. Here is a picture of the sender they send, i'll just label them 1-3 from left to right for easy reference. Both 2 & 3 will screw into #1. How am I supposed to do this?? Once I get the sender figured out, I'll be fine. I've done got the gauge mounted and the wires ran for it. BTW, sorry for the shitty pics. I'm in the garage now hookin up my other DPSS gauge and needed thw quick fix.. Thanks!

If using the pressure port you will just use the main fitting on the left. I personally like to see the sender mounted in the transmission pan or in the return cooler line. I have seen cases get damaged or the sender destroyed when it bottoms out on the inside of the case. When the sender is over tightened it will mushroom the end of it. When this happens if it has to be removed it will normally break the end of the sender off or take out the pipe threads in the case. If you do use this port please do not go all gorilla when you tighten it down. Good luck with your install. Vince
