i have a tci deep transmission pan and i was wondering if you have to upgrade the transmission filter? do you use the stock trans filter one or do you have to use a longer transmission filter with a longer neck due to the larger pan?

Yes you do need to bring the filter down either by a longer filter neck or by some kind of adaptor.I had a B+M Deep Pan on my car and it came with an adaptor.

Aftermarket Deep pans usually come with an extension. OEM "deep" pans require the "deep" filter.

my tci trans pan didn't come with an extension, which filter would be the longer neck filter? would a trans filter from a 4l80E work? is that a longer neck base filter?

Look down inside the pan for something cast into the pan to support the filter. Some deeper pans are deeper, but don't relocate the filter.

On my TCI super-deep pan, it came with four cast-in
"prongs" to support the stock F-body filter. I ground
them down about 1/2-3/4" so I could use the "truck
filter" and have the pickup that much deeper in the
juice, so as to eliminate any cornering / acceleration
pickup starving (yeah, I should be accelerating that
hard... heh).
