Boy you are going to get alot of different opinions, I just bought a th350 with a transbrake,4500 stall that flashesto 5200 on nirous, and a shift kit. I gave $1500 shipping for this setup. I will let you know how it goes.

Id say a th400. It is heavier then a th350 but not like not like a 'ton' heavier whrre i owuld make it the decideing factor when chooseing between the two. The th400 can be stronger and less likely to break then a th350. For a transmission a th400 would be my first choice, and a th350 would have been my second choice.

The difference between the th350 and the th400 is only in the weight ?

B8B if your looking to do a Auto to Manny swap there is a artical at the top of both the Manual and Auto forums that has alot of info on it. but it doesn't need any special shifter that i am aware of. though you having done a V6 to V8 swap should be able to handle it without any real difficulty.

For all out drag racing and nothing else i would choose a power glide one less gear to shift also less rotating mass so less power loss thru trans one draw back if car ways over 3000 lbs sometimes slow down unless you have lots of power. my pick for a street strip trans between the turbo 350 and 400 i would pick the turbo 350 it is lighter has less rotating mass so less power loss thru trans. have used both 3 speeds in a 67 camaro drag car a few years back everything the same just swaped trans from a 350 to a 400 and lost 1.5 tenths in the 1000ft. same converter used in both transmissions. both transmission are great just had better luck with the 350 when using a 3 speed. hope this helps a little like was said early you will get a lot of opinions.
