Talking GM Truck Trans Pan Install

I have a GM truck trans pan I am planning to install this week. I have a new filter and gasket. Is there anything else I need to do to install the truck pan? I figure just replace the filter, gasket and pan. Add fluid and go...

Does it have a drain plug? If not you might want to
look for an add-on type and do that work before
installing.

Also check that the pan flange thickness resembles
that of the stocker; I installed a stamped steel one
and had to make a run to Ace when I found that the
pan bolts were now all bottoming in the hole before
the gasket was snugged.

The pan was given to me and it has an added-on drain plug. I am not too sure about the plug. It does not look like a standard drain plug but it does not leak when filled with water. It is a GM Truck Pan so the standard bolts should work.

Unhappy Where is the best place to install a drain plug on a stock trans pan?

Now I just found out way this pan was given to me. They installed a drain plug in the wrong place and the plug hits the filter. This truck pan is no good. Until I can order another one I will have to put the stock pan back on.

Where is the best place to install a drain plug on a stock trans pan?

98 tahoe is the only oil pan with the drain plug, if i recall correctly.
#24215535-deep pan with drain plug
#24208576-deep filter for above pan

What I want to know, is how is the ground clearance with it installed. I'm already lowered, so I can't lose much more clearance, but I could really use more oil in circulation.

GM does not put a drain plug on that part number any more. I already checked.

Both of my TCI pans have had the plug at the back of the
pan, dead in the middle of that side.
