I think that quality-wise, all three are respectable.
TCI has the pricing, as long as you want what they've
got (I guess they do some custom stuff but have no
good idea about that).
Yank has the broad applications-tailored coverage,
as long as you are willing to pay the price.
PI/Vig is kind of in the middle, they offer "free"
restalls (though, getting it off the car, shipping
it, waiting out the downtime and reinstalling are
on you).
There are other players out there with less (or
worse) of a track record. If I had it to do again I
might well take a chance on Midwest's 3400/2.0
converter; fiendishly good efficiency from the dyno
data I have seen, and on a street-tired car with
3-series gears anything with higher than a 2.0 STR
is going to need some good impulse control to keep
traction.
Impulse control not being my strong suit....
You will need to figure out whether you're a strip
racer, a road racer, a "street racer" (in which case
you should buy a Honda, just so you won't cry
when it's impounded) or just an enthusiastic daily
driver. Each of these pushes on the selection a bit
differently.
Mind your maintenance methods on that K&N (I'd
recommend it just go away, really).

Yank for sure, the price is well worth it. Had mine for over a year in the car running stock internal and with the H/C, just now getting it out to be freshened up since the trans is coming out to get looked at. Never once had any issues with it and it performs much better than any other converter I have used.

Personally I absolutely love how well Neal Chance Racing Converters work. I own two of them. Harlan has one, APE, FastBlackTA and BlackSunshine00/SS have one as well and several others locally here use them. They are a lot more costly compared to many of the others, but are definitely worth every penny IMO. A lot of other racers use them too. As far as street driving goes, they work well there too. Each one is custom built for what the owner needs in a converter, which is really nice.
Just my $.02.

This is very good information if it is correct.
When and how was this proven and by whom?
Thanks

Neal Chance and TCT are the two best I can think of. I know Ray Sanchez runs a TCT in his crazy 4th gen fbody (super street car) and Derty mentioned about all the guys running NC verters. I'm probably going with NC. I like the idea of changing the stall yourself with different stators and the whole bolt-together idea in general.

I am not a Yank hater. If I thought Yank made the best converter I would have one in my car.
The term “Yank Hater” is an interesting one. What is sad about that term is that there is actually a group of people that fall into that category and that the term exists.
Funny thing is that I have never heard of a TCI Hater or a Vigilante Hater. That in its self speaks volumes.
Back to the post…when and how did you prove Yank builds a better converter and that their parts are top of the line?

I'm on my fourth Yank converter now. I had two different ones in my 1999 Camaro SS, a TT2800 and later an ST3500. In the Corvette I started with a Yank 3000 and I very recently installed the SY3500. I was very satisfied with their performance and never had a moment of trouble from any of them.
