Question Banging Rev Limiter between gears

I'm having a problem shifting @ WOT when the tranny is cold, and it doesn't have to be very cold. The problem is most prominant at the track and the it cools between runs. The motor will bang the rev limiter a couple of times between each shift. The rev limit is set @ 6600 and my shift point is set @ 6100. When the tranny is fully warmed up, it shifts just fine. WTF?

yeah- that makes no sense that when the trans gets hot it shifts fine but doesn't when cold/warming up. i'd suspect tuning, but i have no personal experience with such a problem.

fluid level full?

if i read your modifications right you are hitting a 6600rpm rev limiter??!!! i don't see springs/pushrods/ supporting modifications to rev it soo high. also if you are set to shift @ 6100 and it is 500rpms off ? when it shifts "normally" (the trans is hot) how high does it rev? (shouldn't be too much off from the commanded shift point).

i get a little sketchy with my 6200 rev limiter, when i see 6250 after hitting the limiter.

Are you hitting the limiter on the 1-2 or 2-3 shift? 1-2 I suspect tuning, 2-3 bad tranny. I have a similar problem with 1-2, but not temp related, can't get the pcm to command the shift when I want, a few weeks after tuning my car seems to relearn the shift point untill its to high.

If it's mostly the 2-3 only then you might have a tranny problem. Mine started the same way, did it worse when it was cool. That made no sense to me so I asumed it was a tuning issue. I spent a couple weeks playing with shift points at the track with no really great results. Decided to start spraying throught the shifts and now 2-3 is pretty much gone at WOT so I asume the tranny is dead.

BTW: Also check your MPH tables. I had a problem in the past where my MPH wasn't matching up with my RPM and the shift would really lag. It was kind of a surging feeling that could also feel like bumping the limiter real easy.

It happens during both 1-2 and 2-3.
I have the Predator set @ -25% shift quickness, +25% shift pressure.

I agree the MPH shift may be a related problem, and I'll try working with it (currently set @ 40mph for 1-2, 80mph for 2-3), however, as stated, it will shift correctly when fully warmed up.

You might try adding another 1/2 quart over the full mark. I've seen this help in a few instances.

I'm due for a fluid/filter change anyhow, I guess I'll start there.

Be sure to use mobil one synthetic tranny fluid it will help it shift smoother and stay cooler. It cost more but it helps the life or your tranny. Also I had the same prob with my shift points finally got it figured out. It sounds like your mph (which was stated above) is off on your shift points. If you get that correct it should fix your prob.

Mobile 1 is in there now, will adjust MPH points and try it out.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
