The LS1 and SBC chevy share the same bolt pattern, but the LS1 uses 8 bolts and the SBC uses 6. The top right bolt is not used on an LS1 engine, but it has one at the top middle and two more at the bottom center, below the crank center line. To be legal for some racing sanctioning bodies, you would need the adaptor plate, for a street car you will be fine without it.

i originally had a BBC in my nova. im putting in an LS1. ive got everything but havnt been out to dig into it yet to check it. What about my converter? I have a TCI SSF in there for sbc/bbc, is there any difference in depth from the face of the block and the flexplate? or basically it will bolt right up as if there is no difference besides that one bolt?
also, does anyone know if there is a difference between 5.3, 5.7, and 6.0L flexplates? balancing wise?

There shouldn't be, but you should use the 6.0L flexplate as it comes with the needed spacer to adapt the SBC converter to an LS1 engine. The converter sits closer to the transmission, than the engine. I don't know how much as I used all B&M stuff on mine.
