Default Tranny cooler .. really necessary ???

With my setup:

If I do a transmission cooler, will it prolong the life of my tranny by much. Do you think it will give me noticeable performance/ET's?

I dont think you will see any performance gains, but your tranny will run much cooler which will prolong transmission life. my trans with stock converter, no cooler ran hotter then it does now with a 3,200VIG and B&M super cooler. not just alittle cooler, more like 40-50* cooler.

if you are gonna spend the big bucks and get a yank convertor (or any convertor for that matter) then spend a lil bit extra and get the tranny cooler! it will really help!

I had a problem where the more runs I made during the night the worse my ETs got , I couldnt run consistant times at all with the 4L60E, once I slapped in a B&M tranny cooler it shaped up and finally ran consistant.

You don't have to have one but I would not drive around without it. Think of it a prevent. maint.

Highly, highly recommended. Even WITH the tranny cooler you can see high temps if you happen across a horrible driving environment. I got nearly 220* once and I hate to think what would have happened had I not had the cooler.

Thanks for all your comments ... sounds like I'd be crazy not to buy/install one. I was looking at the B&M supercooler, but, with the FTRA I have on my car, I don't think it will fit. Anybody have the FTRA kit with a B&M????

I only have the SLP CAI, which doesn't take up as much room as the FTRA, but by the looks of it you should be okay. I'm sure you can find somebody who actually has both to be sure but I think it'll be fine.

Hey, that's pretty cool (no pun intended) .
I've got a B&M on my LT1 A4 and believe me, it's cheap insurance.

YES its necessary. It probably wont give you better ETs (unless your tranny switches to hot mode and starts shifting at a lower mph/rpm). Ill put it this way, you can buy one now, or you can buy one with your next tranny.

sounds exactly what mine was doing at the track after a few passes, i could barely trap 100 mph after 5 passes w/ a catback/lid/suspension A4

that dope install is pretty neat, might have to do that... mines been rattling since I put mine in ... putting those ties through the radiator is not the easiest task while on your back

I appreciate all the feedback. For the cost of a B&M cooler, I'd be nuts not to shell out the cash for it. You've all definitely convinced me without a doubt.

I don't have a trans temp guage, but have seen posts of 180 degree average with this setup.

Oh thats cool, mine always runs about 150-160*. I was just curious what you run, since we have the same setup as far as the transmission goes.

Its cheap insurance! I run cooler with my vig than I did with the stock converter and stock thermostat.

Ordered a B&M 19K GVW. After measuring some space (or lack thereof), I figured 3/4" will be enough and will be about as wide as I can get away with.

I'd step it up to a 24k cooler, they will fit just as well. I ended up with a 19k because thats why my friend had laying aound unused.

I would go larger, however, I have the FTRA kit installed on my car. It's gonna' be tight maikng it fit, as is. Otherwise, I definitely would've went with the larger capacity one.
