Default Th350 conversion, was told to get a 4l60e crossmember?

I am doing a th350 conversion(m6>a3), I was told to get the 4l60e x-member and use the jegs torque arm conversion bracket. But how will the transmission bolt to the x-member? All info about the transmission is in my sig. Also, if I do not do the vss and all the pigtail stuff, will it still run?TIA.

a t-350 short-tail is the same lenght as the 4l60. It'll mount with the same tranny mount for either one.

The 4L60E is 2 1/4" longer than a short tail th350.
The mount on the 4L60E is also about 2" further back.

I don't know what year your car is. I just looked under mine real quick, it's a stock '02 A4, you could weld a tab on the front of the crossmember for the trans mount. It would be best if the tab was made of U shaped steel for strength and had a slot in it for adjustability.
You could also take a piece of flat steel and drill four holes in it, two so it bolts to the trans and two to bolt the mount to the steel plate 2" back. The only problem with that is it will raise the rear of the trans by the thickness of the steel plate.
I've done this before in a truck, put a th350 in place of a 4L80E temporary, the flat steel was about 8" long and it worked ok.

Thats using the 6 speed cross member right?
That would work too so he wouldn't need to buy the A4 cross member.

I also made mine from the t56 crossmember with flat steel. The crossmember uses the stock t56 rubber mount. Used the th350 long tail with stock m6 driveline. Bought the spohn body mount torque arm. Many posts that I searched when doing my swap were not from actual working applications, its some times hard to pinpoint what you need after weeding through the "should works" and "I thinks". I have a few answers about the t56 to th350 swap on the th400 FAQ's.

Your car will run fine without any tuning switching from t56 to A3. Mine has no speedo and no cruise, but it still runs fine. The VSS controls the IAC on deceleration, the odometer/speedo, and the cruise. I am working on a way to make the speedo work with the old school th350 tail. I will post in the faq's when I figure it out. The vss and reluctor ring can be used in certain th350 tails and these certain tails can use the t56 mount without modifying it, but they are VERY hard to find and the strength of them is arguable. For most people its easier to just make your own.

Hope this helps.

-Kevin

I am doing the same swap, and have been told the M6 cross member is easier to convert. Is this true? Pics would be helpfull.
