Default Looking to buy a new converter

I am looking to get a new stall converter for my 99 T/A. Its my daily driver so I have to keep it streetable. I want to launch at about 1500, but no more than 2000 rpm, like I said I don't need to be launching at 4000 rpm. Can anyone recommend a good quality converter that will give me that rpm range? Also I would appreciate any extra info on how the whole aftermarket converter works and how to gauge what I need. Thanks.

99 T/A WS6 A4: lid, K&N filter, SLP 85mm MAF, LS6 intake, MSD 8.5mm wires, NGK TR55 plugs, QTP LT headers, QTP ORY w/ dual electric cutouts, Corsa catback, ZO6 18x9.5 wheels, BFG 265/35 rubber, Redline fluids, Tuning by A&A Corvette.

354rwhp
360rwtq

Need new times for the tune, but the best so far is 13.3@104mph on low pro street tires.

Yank, TCI and vig are the most popular. For a daily driver i'd look into something in the 3200-3600 range. Do some searches and poke around in these threads and you'll find plenty of info.

Now what exactly does 3200-3600 mean?? I know its rpm's, but does that mean that the car will launch at 3200 rpm every time I go to leave a stop light?? I really don't want to launch at more than 2000 for daily drivability. She only sees the track about twice a year. Please enlighten me on any converter info. And yes I am using the search button to learn, but I can't find a thread that is the same scenario as me. Thanks again.

do a search and you'll learn everything you need to know.
To answer your question the car will not start moving at the stall of the converter, it will move before, say around 2,000 or so. Just like the stock converter. Whereas that's 1900rpm's, the car starts moving just past idle. Itll take more gas but the car will get moving. Once you get to around 45mph the converter "locks up" and the rpms drop down as the car is in high gear and the RPM's wont jump until you flash the converter (or tap the gas) to unlock the converter above it's stall speed. I'm getting ready to put in a 3800 with my measley 2.73's. Dont go too small the first time

TCI SSF 3500 excellent verter for the money.
Yank SS3600 little more efficient and cost a bit more.

Those are my top picks for verters for street strip action in daily drivers.

I had a vig 3200 which i liked very much at the track but had some problems with transmission and tore up the converter so then I rethought it through and went with a vig 2800. I like this converter very well. It has very good street manners and I run mid twelves @ the track so Im happy.

Yup, a TCI SSF is a great bang for the buck. If you are interested shoot me a pm for some options and prices.

My $0.02.

Vig3200 (stalls higher)
TCI SSF3500
Yank SS3600

Pick one. Or go bigger. I wish I had, and there is a decent chance you will too........just something to think about.

Get something around a 3500, you'll regret it if you go any smaller. I had never driven or even ridin in a stalled car but i love mine.

With a converter, you will want more. I am on my 3rd converter. I had a 3000, 3600 and 4000. I would go no less than a 3500 stall. The 3500's are very streetable and you will hardly know it's there. This is one job you don't want to do more than once. With your mods and I assume you still have the 3.23's, I would get the SS3600 from Yank.

The only times I don't like having the converter are:
1) Driving around at 2.5-3k rpm with my loud **** car but hardly going anywhere (relative to sound output) and people look at me like WTF sometimes.
2) When I get horrid gas mileage.

But hey, the pluses of a big converter far outweigh the negatives. You have been given about all you can expect from this board in opinions, they are all good. That plus serach should set ya.

i have a 3600 Yank in my car and i love it. It is just a hair looser than stock. I love it.. get a 3500 or bigger. The converter cut more than 4 tenths of a second of my 1/8th mile.

What kinda STR is it on? Mines on a 2.4 and it feels pretty loose.

Thanks everyone for your help in this. I think that I will probably go with the Yank 3600. When driving around town does your car sound like you are driving in too low of a gear all the time? What are you turning on your tach most of the time around town also? At 2000 my car is stupid loud. I may need to add some soundproofing to it. If it gets much louder I'll have to wear earplugs.
