Default A4 Help

I just bought a 1999 Formula Firehawk, #0262. It is my first auto sports car. I previously had a 2000 SS Camaro M6. So I don't know much about these trannies. I did some research and unless it was upgraded with the Firehawk package, I have a 3.23 rear end. What RPM should I be cruising at on the highway? At 70, I am turning 2000. That seems a little high for me. Is my OD not kicking in? I hear and feel it go through the gears, but I never hear the RPM's drop once I hit 4th. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

You are in 4th. A4's only have one overdrive gear. M6's have two. That's why the M6 has a lower cruise RPM at 70MPH, even with a numerically higher rear gear.

It's another reason why M6's get nearly 30 mpg highway and the auto's are lucky to get 25-ish.

I undestand that. My 2000 SS got awesome mileage. It turned roughly 1500 RPM at 70 MPH. Is 2000 RPM at 70 MPH right for an A4? I am also confused about the automatic setup. Does it have a 4 speed plus overdrive or 4 speed including overdrive? I have a 2002 Silverado with a 4 speed auto. It turns 1900 RPM at 70 MPH with a 3.73 rear end. I am just trying to determine if this is average for this car. I understand that each individual gear ratio in the car is going to differ from my truck, but how does the truck turn lower revs at highway speed than the car? Like I said, my understanding of autos is a bit fuzzy compared to the M6. Never dealt with it before. Thanks in advance for any input.

Your truck has a taller tire. There is a big difference is overall final drive ratios if your truck has a 31-32 inch tall tire and your car has a 26 inch tire. The 4l60E has the same .75 overdrive in fourth gear in the truck and the car.......the TCC should keep slip rpm to a minimum

It's a 4 speed including overdrive. You have your two underdrive gears, third gear is an exact 1:1, and fourth is overdrive. Like stated above your cruising RPM is perfectly normal for an A4.
