Default all around converter

Im looking at the vig3200 multidisc and a tci 3500.

Im trying to do about everything here and dont know what to do... I street race more than anything. I dont want to lose any top end, and want to be good from a roll. I will also be spraying a 100-150 shot as well. But I dont always use it so I need something that works all around basically.

I have read a few post but everyone recommends something different.

thats the way its gonna go, everyone has their own oninion on what is best, but the one thing you can pull from all of it, is the fact that if you go with TCI, Vigilanti, or Yank, yo will be getting a good convertor and will be happy with it. Im not sure what works best for street racing though...they will all work great if you evr decide to take it to the drag strip though.

btw..did you trap that 114 mph with or without the nitrous? my car ran 12.5's lsat year, but only at 107 mph. its an A4 as well.

Well you have to tell us how much looseness and streetability you are willing to take. If it's going to be a daily driver in stop and go traffic i'd suggest yanks SY 3500 1.6 STR for 3 reasons #1 it's going to have good street manners,#2 it's very efficent, so it's good for roll races and #3 it will launch fairly easy on the street with that 1.6 STR. If you want an all out monster from a roll and are willing to give up good street manners well look into something in the 4000+range.

From what i've seen vigs do good at the track and will drop your ET just as much as any other brand but they lack MPH and that will hurt you from a roll on the streets IMO. The fact that you are spraying will limit the converters you are supposed to use with spray, but plenty of people still spray on converters that don't have an upgrade for spray and they hold up ok. Check TBYRNE's site out------------> they have some good reading on the diffrent stalls they sell. Do some research and good luck!!

Default Yank

Yank is the strongest built converter i've seen so far. I own a 3600 stall vig and a Yank the vig is dead. I'd go with a Yank 3600, fun and smooth and will last longer.

Like mentioned above, you have to decide. Read the mfg. web sites ask them some questions if you want. You ask ten people, you will get ten different answers. I have had both the vig. 3200, and the tci 3500. Liked both, dropped about .5 tenths off of e.t. at the track. 3k to 4k are good street/strip converters. Also when you buy, get a shift kit and cooler.....worth the extra $.

I decided after having my TCI3000/2.2 for about 1.5
years that what I wanted, is not what the "performance
guys" make. Seems like they all want to put higher STR
with higher stall, when I can't even hook it up on my
mild (but well-shoed, well suspended, T-2R) ride. With
3.23s or 3.42s a street-tires car just does not need a 2.5
STR. 1st gear is a waste and the 1-2 shift is a menace,
with just my 2.2 STR if I go full open.

But I do want to raise the RPM a bit for a new cam &
heads. So I'm getting a custom one made (spurred to it
by an interesting GP, um... elsewhere).

I asked to get a custom 3500/2.0 built for very high
efficiency and with a more capable / durable TC clutch.
This seems to me a better recipe for my 99.9%-street
car than what I see offered out there. I don't want a
hard hit to the tires, I happen to like my tires. And my
stock trans and my 10-bolt. I want just to get up into
the powerband and make the most (efficiency) of the
power I've got. But, I do like the ability of my 3000/2.2
to accelerate at 1500RPM in traffic. I think the higher
stall, lower STR will keep this Clark Kent cruise while
letting me romp a bit more when I choose (the 3000 stall
was just a little short, and would be a bit shorter with the
baby cam I have coming).

Anyway, just to point out, you don't have to settle for
off-the-rack. I know some of the big boys will also do
custom orders. I just ran into an irresistable opportunity.

Who is building your converter? Please share with the rest of us.

I agree that for a mainly street driven car - STR of 2.5+ & stall speeds of 3500-4000 equals tire melting go nowhere with lots of smoke and worthless first gear when you mash it. I always liked the Super Yank 3500 - STR of 1.6 & very high efficiency, but I don't think they make them anymore.
