Default A4 not shifting into 3rd

Ok this is the deal ever since I put headers and ory on my car does not shift into 3rd untill after the motor hits the rev limiter. And this is only while at wide open. But from first to second at wide open it shifts great. I brackett race almost every weekend with the car and its been do this. The car is not tuned so maybe thats the problem. But I am looking for some ideas. I think I will try to reset the computer and see if that solves the problem.

I have the same issue but 2-3 shift will not happen unless I lift the throttle.

mine started out like that and after cam install didn't last 3 days normal driving and lost 3rd and 4th clutch pack trans is down now and am in rebuild process with shift kit and vacuum modulator to assure it will last a little while longer. need to have it looked at before it leaves you stranded with 1st and 2nd. with more power comes more slippage.

The thing is that this a fresh tranny. It was doing fine until the 10 vane pump cracked possibly due to high line pressure. After repairs it started all the problems. Before it used to bump the limiter if left in 3rd. making a WOT blast, but it would shift on command if I started in 1st. and manually upshifted .

I have a similar saga, after I did LTs and ORY I lost what feels like 1st and maybe even 2nd gear, car needs nearly half throttle just to get it moving but seems 'ok' once rolling...haven't verified that it's actually a transmission issue though yet.
Any ideas?

It could be, with the extra power you have now you are rev up a lot faster than before, not giving the tranny/pcm a chance to shift in time causing you to hit the rev limitor.

I had a similar problem when I added headers to my cammed/high stall converter car. I had my car shifting at 6700 rpms with my cam and TC. But after the headers and a few other mods it would not shift and I was hitting my rev limit at 6900 rpms. It was only the 2nd to 3rd shift with the problem, 1st to 2nd was great.

So I lowered the shift point down 150 rpms and now the tranny shifts at the 6700 rpms it use to do. Those that know tuning know that it is not unusual to have to "play" with the shift points to get the car to shift where you want it to shift.

i had the same problem last year when i was spraying my car. but i changed the shift points and raised the rev limiter and i havent had the problem again. you can make these simple adjustments with hypertech hpp3. i bought mine off ebay, and i'm sure you could pick one up for your year car around $150.

Don't forget, lower temperature equals more power... it might not shift again during cold weather. The rpm's come up faster. Moreover, do not raise your fuel cut off.. it protects both your engine and transmission.

Is there any chance this is not a tranny problem but something else? I blew my tranny (only had 1st and 2nd) and I just bought a beefed up rebuilt, brand new. After the install I still don't have third or 4th and I am stuck in first and second.

My friends 99 SS did the same coming back from Acuna. Its normally an 8 hour drive but since his tranny kept slipping his top speed was like 40mph all the way back.

It could be a sprag thats broke try shifting it manualy it should go into 3rd if its the sprag. Just shift it about 2500-3000. Or you might now have alot of line pressure that what was wrong with my a4. it sounds funny but i turned my maf backwards and shifted fine, but your ses light will come on it just says that your car is running richer
