I just bought a TCI Streetfighter 3000 (part #242931) and my car has 2.73 gears. Should I change the gears, and if so, to what?

02 Z28 A4, Kooks LT, ORY, magnaflow, lid, getting AFR heads, and 224/228 114 cam.

Is this enough stall? Should I change gears?

Car will probably never see the track (weekend toy)

I had a Yank TT3000 with 2.73's and it worked very well. I dropped almost 1 second with the converter and Nitto's. So, gears aren't a must to change out. You will be leaving performance on the table otherwise. I went to a 3.42 and I am much happier than with the 2.73's. With a 4000 stall, it daily drives better than my Yank TT3000/2.73 combo. With the H/C, you really should get gears and a bigger converter. I wwould say no to the shift kit. I am using tuning and the shifts are just right.

I have that combo right now, 3.42s and the TCI SF3000.
The STR makes street tires a joke, even good street tires,
and the stall is a little short even for my low level of mods.
The SSF3500 though would be worse (for me and my tires)
with its 2.5:1 STR. I think for the 2.73s this converter will
not be such a handful for traction, it will drop you a bit low
on the shifts but the answer may just be to raise the shift
points to make the cam happy and stay out of the torque
multiplication. That will be more efficient as long as you
have the valvetrain for it.

I have the same combination as Jimmy - SF3000 & 3.42's - and the 3.42's make for a nice tight feel around town and are reasonable on the highway (2500 rpm @ 80mph). If it doesn't feel too loose for you, you may be happy with the 2.73's. I wouldn't be. I say "yes" to the shift kit if you want firm, crisp shifts and positive lock-up. It does things that tuning alone simply cannot accomplish.

Will be getting a Phamspeed turbo. Will the turbo work better with the TCI 3000 or the stock stall?

get 3.42 or 373 gears. i can assume you hate the spongy feel of the torque converter. a higher gear will tighten it up

Absolutely go with 3.42's. I didn't like my 2.73's with the stock converter, let alone with a higher stall. Some guys don't mind the looseness on the street; I couldn't take it. I have the same converter as you and it is nice with 3.42's.

Your right foot is the modulation especially on a turbo car.

On the dsm boards they use stalls and they work well and 2 steps to launch consistent at higher rpms.I also have heard too steep gears don't work with turbos but I was planning on 3.73 regardless in my six speed car and likely 3.42 with a 2800 to 3200 stall if convert my m6 to auto.
I also can't see why you don't like your current converter.You shouldn't notice if that bad most of the time and they sure give some kick off the line.2.73 gears are probably ok with a turbo maybe even great but I hated mine na with a passion.I love my 3.42s!

Personally I think the 2.73 and 3K stall is perfect for a turbo car, especially on the street

I would leave everything as is with the turbo installed and see how you like it If you HATE the feeling I'd go with a 3.23 or 3.42 gear before taking out the converter.
