Where can I find a dipstick for my trans its going in a 96 camaro

I use a Lokar flexible dipstick, made from braided stainless line. Seems to work pretty good for me. You can find them at summit or jegs.

how long was it again? 36" if i remember?

I believe it comes in at 36" normally, but can be ordered with a 44" to get better access if you don't want it so far back.

I put a TH350 in a 86 coupe, where it had a 200R4, which made it about 2 7/8 inches further back in order to bolt up to the transmission mount. My transmission dipstick didn't fit an I too got a Lokar.
