The stall speed shouldn't keep it from idling. Sounds like something else going on to me.

Curious: What exactly are the specs on the cam?
I don't see why there would be any relation between the stall speed and neutral idle.

So basically you're saying you can set the idle so it's just fine in neutral or park, but when you put it in gear it wants to stall?
Or is the neutral idle kinda rough?
Had you done any mods, changed plugs, etc. recently?
My first thought is you need some tuning.
(left field here)If this just happened out of the blue, maybe the TC is trying to lock up at idle?????

yes it wants to stall after I put it in gear the motor is new about 300 miles and it has done it since day one. The motor is a 383 10.5 to 1 comp. Dart pro1 Alum. heads ported Air-gap in take with Holley 750 vac carb.

The carb can't compensate for the idle load the
way an IAC setup will. But that idle is insanely
high and you should be able to bring it down.
That kind of stall speed ought not to load up too
badly until 800-900RPM or so is my guess (my car
w/ 3000 stall speed creeps weakly at 700RPM idle
and needs 1500RPM to really start pushing).

That is a pretty insane duration and I can't see why
you'd be at that low a stall speed on that big a cam,
unless you're running a non-lockup converter and
still trying to still pretend this is a street car.

This is in a street car 69 conv Camaro its not an every day driver but it sees plenty of street use! What stall should I run? car has 373 gears I was thinking about 2800-3200 stall. As far a the stall that's in the car the motor I was planning and the motor that I ended up with are no were close to each other. These things sometimes get out of control. (cam, heads, compression, and now it seems the converter also)

1. As already stated, there's no way in hell you should need a 2100 rpm idle speed.

2. With your 3.73 gears and that cam, the very smallest torque converter you should go with is a 3500 though that cam would work better with a 4000+ stall speed.

So long as you cool it properly you can run very high stall speeds. I have a 3500 stall with 24k gvw B&M cooler and fans coming on early. Driving around in 70-80* temps the tranny hits 180* around town. Get on it once or twice and it's 200*. Stop and go for ahwile it gets even hotter. Not bad, but not the greatest. Might want to look into an even larger tranny cooler, multiple coolers in line and/or a fan onthe cooler. It'll be fine with a higher stall.

Well, no matter what converter you go with, you're definitely going to need a good auxiliary tranny cooler living where you do, so don't limit your stall speed because of that concern. A good tranny cooler will take care of it.

Well it seems I 'll be on the look out for a 3500 stall and an Auxiliary cooler. Then I'm going to find some Vipers or Cobras and see if they want to play?

Whether or not it has the ability to lockup. What transmission is it for?
